I am Unqualified

In the basest sense, I am unfit to lead. Unfit to lead in my home, in my church and in my workplace. I am simply speaking too flawed. Full of anger and high expectations, I can be much too harsh. Really learning this truth about my character has been difficult and quite depressing. For about a month or so I have grappled with this understanding. But something else has also become clear to me.

It doesn’t matter. These are very human feelings, perfectly normal and acceptable. They are also only a fraction of truth. When I pit my words and feelings against the Word of God – He is always right. If there is a contradiction, it exists in people not in Him or His Word.

Colossians 1: 21 – 22

And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.

This is an extremely powerful truth for those who truly believe in Christ and the power of His resurrection and eventual return. We are holy, blameless and above reproach in the Spirit of God that dwells within. Yes our flesh is weak and susceptible to sin, but the Spirit is infinite in power and completely incorruptible. This of course leads to the dichotomy between flesh and spirit. Verse 23 of the same chapter continues and adds a bit of a condition.

Colossians 1: 23

If indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

The condition is that we do not lose hope! As long as we continue to hope upon the One that we believe in and His return, we are holy, blameless and above reproach.

In the spiritual sense, I am fit to lead. Fit to lead in my home, in my church and in my workplace. I am holy, blameless and above reproach in the sight of my Father. What a wonderful truth this is to learn!

Until next time,
