The Humility of God

Before we begin this topic I wish to make a couple things clear about what the Bible teaches. Firstly there is only one true God. I have an open mind that there are likely minor spiritual beings that people have falsely claimed as god like, but there is only one Creator. Secondly, Jesus Christ is the literal physical incarnation of God. And lastly, by the death and resurrection of Christ, eternal life is an option. This is what the Bible teaches and it is what I believe.

Now the reason I wished to start with that is because you my dear reader may not have any idea about Christ or God at all or perhaps you were raised to believe something else. In any case we can take a look at this together in the hopes that we may all grow – myself included.

Humiliation I believe is a core, universal experience shared by all humans. We have all suffered humiliation at one point or another, either by intent or accident. I believe this to be by design, because no matter how much we may have suffered, He has suffered far more.

Can you imagine having the entire universe bend to your will simply by you speaking? Please take a moment to consider the quite frankly, impossible to grasp, power of God. The sheer power, intelligence and enormity of God is unthinkable. We may think we understand but we are incapable. Even if you don’t believe I am convinced that through this exercise we can realize how important His sacrifice was and still is.

Jesus Christ descended from heaven to be raised as a human child. He felt hunger, thirst, loneliness and despair. As if that wasn’t enough humiliation (already more than we will ever suffer) He came for the express purpose of being sacrificed, and that for people who did not love Him. He was beat, mutilated and tortured for the sake of love. This is true because the payment for sin, is always blood and He paid it for you.

He is the ultimate expression of unrequited love.

In my youth I often romanticized unrequited love because I thought it to be the purest form of love. When I met Jesus I understood why. It is love freely given with no reward.

That is what He died for and why we should return that love.

Until next time,
